Following unending killings in the country as a result of clashes between the Fulani herdsman and farmers, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is set to tackle the menace with the formation of an agro-rangers security unit.

But the development, according to the Commandant General (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, will be with the approval of the federal government.

Muhammadu in an exclusive interview with, The Nation disclosed that the proposal is to start with about 300 officers.

The NSCDC boss, who expressed sadness over the incessant killing, vowed that: “We have heard enough of this crisis between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers all over the country. So many killings have taken place with destruction of farmlands and this cannot continue.”

His words: “We are trying to make sure that we live up to date as far as security issue is concerned.”

“I have visited one of the farms in the north and what I saw on ground was amazing. The man has invested over N5 billion on the farm and he has abandoned everything because of insecurity. So we have assured them that proper security will be put in place. We are charged to do more in the area of critical infrastructure.”

On the welfare of officers and men of the Corps, Muhammadu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government over the 100 percent life insurance, but decried the movement from the various MDAs to the Head of Service, saying payment has become difficult.

He commended the federal government, saying “for the first time, all our requests in the budget were granted,” and pledged his organisation’s resolve to soon bring “vandalisation to its barest minimum.”

Muhammadu also called on Nigerians to discountenance speculations that the Corps was recruiting and doing secret replacement.
